Embossing technique
For a long time, embossing was the only way to apply machine-readable characters to a plastic card. The individual characters on the back of plastic cards are “hammered in” so that they are visible on the other side as raised characters. In times of digital data processing, embossing has been replaced by modern and effective methods such as magnetic strips barcodes or NFC.
However, embossing remains as a high quality personalization method, e.g. for VIP cards. The embossed characters and numbers can then be colored in different shades, e.g. in black, white, gold or silver, thus ensuring a higher value of the plastic card.
Known by the personalization of credit cards, embossing is still considered a classic among the labeling techniques of cards. There are digits and letters in Gothic and OCR fonts in 3mm or 5mm sizes. The representation of special characters and mutated vowels is possible. In addition to machine-readable high-precision font, a magnetic strip or barcode can also be coded immediately. So the card stores all important data.
