Dye-sublimation in card printers – for card printing in high resolution

Using dye-sublimation, card printers can produce high-quality print images directly on the cards. Dye-sublimation printing is used for 4-color printing as well as for grayscale printing. By the heating the colour is transferred gaseous on the card. By regulating the temperature, it is possible to print almost any colour and thus produce high-quality print images.

How does dye-sublimation printing work?

Dye-sublimation printing for plastic cards is used for full-color pictures. A part of the 4-color ribbon is heated at the print head to separate the color from the substrate and then it is transferred onto the card in a gaseous state. Each of the 4 color segments (YCMK) is detached from the ribbon and transferred to the card. The colour intensity can be controlled with the finest regulation of the temperature and thus very detailed print images can be produced. The thermal-sublimation technique makes it possible to produce photorealistic print images without seeing any pixels.
