The MIFARE DESFire family delivers reliable and secure RFID and NFC contactless services. With the new MIFARE DESFire Light IC, developers now have an easier and more cost-effective way to provide secure contactless services. The IC is a lightweight version of the MIFARE DESFire family and uses a pre-defined file structure to simplify the introduction of contactless services for individual applications.
The new approach allows developers to quickly migrate to a single contactless application, such as closed loop micropayment, loyalty programs, public transportation or access management. Developers can then add the inherent upward compatibility with MIFARE DESFire EV2 to their services as needed to support additional applications and create true Smart City experiences.
A lightweight, flexible entry chip
MIFARE DESFire Light offers system operators the opportunity to protect their long-term investments while developing their systems to offer new services, support new trends and keep pace with consumer expectations for comfort and privacy.
As an upwardly scalable solution to complement secure contactless services, it opens the door to the Internet of Services. MIFARE DESFire Light contains 640 bytes of total available memory (like the old 1 kB MIFARE Classic product) and provides high-quality protection for a single application.
The setup supports up to five AES 128-bit keys for secure access management and supports secure messaging to protect data and privacy. The IC can also be scaled to various form factors that support bank cards, mobile devices and wearables as part of the growing end user trend of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). For broad compatibility, MIFARE DESFire Light can be configured as NFC Forum NFC Type Tag 4 for use with a variety of mobile devices equipped with contactless reading capabilities.
