Thermal-rewrite printing technology is particularly suitable for ID cards or tickets that need to be rewritten. There are TRW cards that have a small strip with a special rewritable layer, but also cards that can be rewritten over the entire surface. For student cards, visitor passes and other id cards also with chip technology.
On blank cards, but also on printed plastic cards or chip cards, a thermosensitive layer can be applied to the cards during production. In a rewritable card printer, this layer is then heated at the appropriate points for personalization, thus achieving a colored reaction at the desired point. During the next printing process, the visible writing is “erased” again and made visible at the new places. This means that a small part of the card or, if desired, the entire card can be rewritten up to 500 times in monochrome black or blue.
This technology is used wherever high-quality cards are to retain the same layout and only additional information such as current authorizations, validity period, semester, etc. have to be printed.
